Shoulder-thoracic Axis

January 29th, 2016|0 Comments

I’ve been increasingly aware of how the shoulder girdle gets locked down into the lid of the thoracic region, limiting range of motion and preventing some of us from getting the free-moving arms we need […]

Hey Yogi, why study anatomy?

Embodied Ontologies

#makerbodyprints makerbody.org My work as an artist, anatomist, and Yogi all revolves around anatomy. Last year I finished my masters with a paper, Embodied Ontologies, essentially concerned with how humans process data about […]

Fascinated with the human body?

Small wonder! Our bodies are supported by the skeletal system in a tensegrity structure consisting of 206 bones harnessed for movement by a crystalline semi-conducting myofascial matrix. Learning about the major compression members (bones) and tensile members (muscles, connective tissue), is like appreciating the role of individual instruments in a symphony.

The Yogi that studies human anatomy becomes the conductor, in that cultivating greater awareness of each instrument makes for higher fidelity music.

“I thought the workshop was excellent and very informative. I work as a Personal Trainer and still a bit sceptical on the merits of yoga. However Karen is a wonderful instructor and I was really struck by her professional knowledge in the subject in the thoracic.
I have already recommended the workshop to other health professionals.
I will definitely be back for future workshops when time allows.”
