New! Pregnancy & Postpartum Yoga Teacher Training

Welcome Back!

covid secure Sep 24, 2020

Thanks to Victoria Vettese for the video.

Thank you!

Your positive response to our 5 Point Protocol means we are able to continue offering in-person classes.

The five points are as follows:

  1. Pre-book online.
  2. Wear a mask upon entry and throughout communal spaces (you can take the mask off when you're on your mat - make sure to bring your own mat).
  3. Use the hand sanitiser upon entry and throughout the building.
  4. Be fever-free: we are taking temperatures at reception.
  5. Keep 2m apart at all times.

Please also observe our mask + mat policy:

No mask, no mat, no class.

Everyone who wishes to practice in-studio at Meadowlark needs to wear a mask and must bring their own mat. By signing up for class you agree to this policy. We will have to turn away anyone who is not prepared to wear a mask. We have no choice but to turn away those who do not bring their own mat to practice. Anyone affected by this policy will have their in-studio class booking converted to an...

Demystifying "Mysore"

Uncategorized Sep 05, 2020
WHAT IS MYSORE STYLE/ ASHTANGA VINYASA YOGA?

The Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga system provides a dynamic and personalised platform for personal growth which is seeped in philosophy and history.  It provides both a physical and mental modality towards wellness.

The word “Ashtanga” comes from the ancient scriptures of the Yoga Sūtras of Patañjali, it means “eight limbs”. In the sūtras Patañjali describes the eight branches of work to be able to bring wellness in the body and steadiness of mind. (Yama (abstinences), Niyama (observances), Āsana (postures), Pranayama (breath control), Pratyahara (sense withdrawal), Dharana (concentration), Dhyana (meditation), and Samadhi (contemplation). Both internal and external work.

Vinyasa- simply means breath, movement system.  The word “Vinyasa” is now included in our modern day understand of what Ashtanga Yoga is, although closely linked with...

Acceptance and adaptation

covid-19 Jul 30, 2020

Backstory: we eagerly anticipated opening along with all the pubs and nonessential shops, and then we watched indoor gyms in England open as of last week. While they were outlined as part of phase three of the Scottish Government’s route map, Nicola Sturgeon omitted gyms from her first announcement of the changes. Today we heard her remarks about the 14th of September being a target for our sector to aim toward for reopening.

So where do we stand now?

Of course, we share the frustration rife in the indoor movement community, and we'll have to sit with that discomfort for some time now. None of us has the luxury of residing in disappointment, however, as we all need to take stock and move forward given the hand we've been dealt. First, we had to scrap the 4-week blocks. These were intended to bridge the gap from early phase 3 into phase 4, but as Scot Gov kept us out of early phase 3 altogether, it is time for us all to catch up.

What are we catching up on,...

COVID Policy

COVID Policy

as of 30/07/2020 Scot Gov has announced our sector can plan for reopening from 14th Sept.

Posters are on display informing our community of social distancing and cleanliness/hygiene protocols at Meadowlark Yoga (MLY)

Check out the video and watch for more updates from our Mysore Director, Emma Isokivi to find out about Mysore-specific protocol.

We commit to the wellbeing of our community; anyone coming to MLY with any signs of COVID-19 will be sent home to follow UK Government regulations.

We are implementing a temperature-taking measure into our protocol; see Fever Free Zone for more details. Everyone will have their temperature taken upon entry; anyone presenting with a temperature above UK Governmentguidelines will not be permitted to enter the building.

We will ensure that social distancing is adhered to throughout the centres at all times by our community members.

It is down to the...

What is Fever Free Zone?

We are working with Dr. Paul Nelson, an epidemiologist by training (who also happens to also be a former yoga teacher at Meadowlark) to refine our COVID-protocol toward the absolute best standards possible. Paul is developing a symptoms-screening app that uses temperature as a gateway for access to high street experiences such as yoga, bicycle repair, shopping, eating, and more. This app is called Fever Free Zone. It gives hyperlocal economies such as the one on our street, Argyle Place, a chance for greater security in terms of health and economic activity.

How does it work?

Our studio gets a cheap and simple thermometer. You arrive for your class with the app pre-downloaded. Your teacher takes your temperature. If you're fever-free, your app goes green and you are welcomed into the studio for your class... and after class you can enjoy frictionless access to all the shops in our local area. If you present with an elevated temperature, the app goes red and you'll be invited to...

Online Workshop with Sarah Hatcher

On Thursday 9th July, Emma Isokivi and Sarah Hatcher chatted on IGTV and here are some nuggets transcribed from the conversation:

Emma Isokivi is our Mysore Director and a long term student of Sarah Hatcher’s.  On Saturday 25th July, Sarah is running a special 2.5hr workshop for us online (see more details HERE and at the bottom).

Emma:  Sarah why don’t you share a little more about yourself and your connection with Meadowlark?

Sarah: This is fun.

I got connected to Meadowlark Yoga because I came to Meadowlark in 2012 to guest teach and then I ended up staying and the story is a little bit long, but well just the good stuff is I was the director of the program there for a year and a half. Then we moved up to Aberdeen or I started a program up there at Love Yoga. And then we came back to Edinburgh and I was there for another four and a half years or so, and again taught as the director of the Mysore program.

So Meadowlark is, my really heart and...

Can we ask you a favour?

community sponsorship yoga Jul 16, 2020

We have been overwhelmed by your messages of support over the last few months.  Some of you have been asking how you can best support us as we navigate the uncertain territory ahead:

  1. Keep joining us in class! Online and in-studio, however you can, as often as you can.
  2. Pay-it-Forward - anonymously support a member of your community by paying for them to attend class:
  3. Pay more for your pass - If you're on our monthly auto-renew and you're able to pay more than the £40 livestream rate, please contact reception to let us know.

For more information and to apply for sponsorship, please visit our Pay-it-Forward page.

Tentative Opening

Every walk of life is undergoing huge uncertainty in our collective response to releasing from the urgency of lockdown. At the moment, the urgency is abating, but we all have to recognise that the factor of potential lockdown will be with us for some time to come.

Here at Meadowlark, our now even smaller admin team is getting ready for the moment when in-person yoga can happen in person in our studio. We are deploying a moveable and scaleable opening plan, so that even as we share these plans with our community base please know that we are prepared to roll up the blanket and move the picnic as needed.

Some of these sessions are already fully booked, but don't worry as we'll keep the livestream timetable rolling into the future. There are naturally a lot of different feelings around how local businesses should reopen. We are choosing to make our protocol public, so you can keep tabs with our approach as we'll keep updating our COVID-secure document here.

Here is our...

Listening, friendship, evolution

Let's... pause.

You've listened to us talk about Remski's book, Practice and All is Coming: Abuse, Cult Dynamics and Healing in Yoga and Beyond, in Amy's two-part podcast. Those of you in the Mysore community at MLY perhaps engaged with Emma's purposeful conference after the podcast blog was released. Many of you went out and got the book and are now more engaged than ever in the dialogue.

So what now?

Now we are holding space to hear from you, so you can speak your mind. So you can talk to each other. So we can evolve together. Join us for a community discussion webinar as we float questions for our community to consider and chat about in a safe, semi-structured setting.
  • This event is being held to give the MLY community space to contribute thoughts and ask questions about power dynamics specifically in relation to Remski's book and the PRISM model we are working on.
  • The BLM movement is a separate but related issue that deserves...
